EGDF General Assembly at Gamescom 2025

Gamescom has always had more going on than what makes the show floor. Of all the editions attended over the years, 2025 had the highest density of meaningful EGDF activity in a single week. Bilateral talks, cooperation discussions, and a General Assembly that was genuinely the centerpiece of the week, not a calendar obligation.

The assembly covered three things that matter. EGDF member associations aligned on a shared vision for the upcoming EU funding framework, which is not an abstract policy exercise. For developers across Europe who depend on that infrastructure to build, scale, and compete, this conversation has direct consequences. Getting alignment on how the federation will engage with that process is exactly the kind of work EGDF exists to do.

Three new member associations were admitted, bringing the federation to 27 trade associations across 24 European countries. That's a different organization than it was a few years ago, in reach and in political weight.

The action plan for the coming year was also reviewed, with a clear focus on building a fair digital single market and ensuring European game developers have genuine access to EU funding mechanisms. Neither of those goals is new, but the consistency and seriousness of the board's work on them is. Credit to Jari-Pekka Kaleva, Ricardas Jascemskas, Hendrik Lesser, and the full EGDF board for keeping that standard.

Setimedia Co-Founder Tugbek Olek represented Turkiye at the General Assembly. Turkiye's game industry has a seat at this table, and that's not a ceremonial presence. The work that happens in rooms like this shapes the conditions under which developers across Europe, including those in Turkiye, actually operate.
