Murat Palta's Assassin's Creed Cover Is Exactly What a Magazine Cover Should Be

Getting a cover right is harder than it looks. Anyone who's worked in print media long enough knows that the difference between a good cover and a memorable one is almost always about the idea behind it, not the execution.
For Oyungezer's March 2023 issue, we went with Murat Palta's Assassin's Creed 15th anniversary illustration, created in collaboration with Ubisoft. If you know Palta's work, you already understand why this felt like a natural fit. His style pulls from Turkish mosaic art and popular culture and filters it through a contemporary visual sensibility that is entirely his own. When that meets a franchise built around history, hidden blades, and visual identity, something genuinely interesting happens on the page.
Collaborations like this don't come together easily. A publisher, an artist with a distinct voice, and a global game brand all have to be pointing in the same direction at the same time. When it works, you get a cover that doesn't look like a promotional asset and doesn't look like pure editorial either. It sits in that rarer space where both sides brought something real to the table.
Oyungezer has been covering the games industry since 2007. Across two decades, the magazine has tracked the rise of Turkish gaming from a niche hobby to one of the country's most significant cultural and economic sectors. Not every issue marks that history in a visible way. This one does.
Happy reading.
