Riot Games invited Oyungezer to Madrid for the LEC Summer finals. Four days on the ground, and Serpil C. Uluturk made the most of the access.
The interview she conducted with Maximilian Schmidt, Director of League of Legends EMEA Esports, goes to the questions a regional audience actually wants answered. The LEC has been through enough structural changes over the years that the question of long-term vision is fair game. Schmidt addressed it directly. So did the challenge of building a coherent competition across a region as fragmented as EMEA, where language, market size, and local scene maturity vary enormously from one territory to the next.
There was also a conversation about what the industry looks like for people who are deeply invested in competitive League of Legends but won't ever compete professionally. The space around esports, what jobs exist there and what's still being built, is something a Turkish audience has concrete reasons to care about.
